1. Do not do that which you hate. Jesus, Gospel of Thomas, 6
2. Great power comes late. Lao Tzu, 41

Note: great power comes late utterly negates the model of those freaks like Mozart and, say, Picasso who the world loves to hold up before you to discourage you from finding and then following your own vocation. Life is a journey and that journey is long and leads properly to an awakening--"great power comes late." This is the Teaching that Roy is given at the very beginning of the film and is the key to understanding the shocking turn of events that, in fact, take the boy's gift from him and force him back on the only thing he has, his Self. It is a piece of American mythology that hooks itself right back into that great Tradition we call the Hero's Journey. Study it with great care. It will help you, if you understand its message. JWC
